Reflection
I would like to take a moment and reflect on the blogging assignment for this class as this is my first ever blog. I very much enjoyed the idea of keeping an online journal in the format of a blog. It was a nice complement to the nature of this class. So often I find myself in class wishing to continue the current discussion on but because of time restraints we move on to other topics equally deserving of our attention. The blog offers a medium in which to carry on such topics in a less formal environment. This affords each of us the opportunity to speak our mind despite certain apprehensions of speaking out. It also allows us to comment and potentially thread a discussion outside of the classroom whenever we want. This is extremely valuable, especially for those controversial topics in which there might be a lot to say. I hope that I keep using this medium to discuss current events which directly effect my future and the future of younger generations. I would also like to take this chance to express my gratitude to everyone for such an enlightening experience. My thanks go out to all my classmates for their valuable contributions.

I had never blogged before either and was uneasy about the situation. I am not even on Facebook! But this experience was very positive and I would be open to blogging in the future. This gave the class another venue to continue class discussions that had to be cut short because of our timeframe. It was great reading everyone's thoughts and comments throughout the five weeks!

ReplyDeleteI have always been hesitant on blogging, mainly because I did not know how before this class. I never really gave it a chance, but I am glad that Dr. Shutkin taught us how to set up an account. I really enjoyed the posts put up by our classmates. They were really thoughtful, and often provoked me to question my stance on certain issues.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree, Alex! Although I was introduced to blogging last session with Dr. Shutkin, this was the first class where I blogged without having prompts to write about - I really enjoyed how we were free to discuss what we either wanted to say in class but didn't or thought of after we parted ways as a means of reflection. I'm a firm believer in active reflection and writing. I think it's crucial to a person's development. If you aren't reflecting, you'll never change with your own accord. In my own classroom, I want to have students actively blogging or writing in journals every day. It's important to reflect, vent, and always, always, ALWAYS write :) I also believe the comments and responses have been very helpful and insightful!
ReplyDeleteAlex, I agree with you that the communication between students in this class is extremely high due to our blogging. It’s interesting to read everyone opinion and ideas about class content and their personal experiences. Thank you for your contributions to this class.
ReplyDeleteI thought I was about the only one who'd never blogged before. It turns out that Dr. Shutkin broadened all our horizons!
ReplyDeleteThe atmosphere of this class was so respectful and supportive! That was due in part due to the people, but also to the way Dr. Shutkin structured the class.
I'm inspired by all of you and hope your dreams of changing humanity one student at a time all come true!
Hi Mr. Kimmel
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more. This setting was so very respectful and a less formal way to collaborate concerning the mindsets of this class. I myself had never really blogged before this, and have come to realize that there exist so many ways to communicate electronically. I am very pleased to say that this course has broadened my horizons with regard to the blogging and how we communicate outside the protection of the classroom. I am looking forward to using this type of medium in the future, especially with my own students.
I could not have not said it better. This is my first expereince of blogging, It is very interesting way of communicating.. I enjoyed blogging for the most part, it is great way to communicate with my classmates.
